Registrations are now open for the iconic Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim, the showcase event of the TOWSA Open Water Swim Season — now in its 71st year. Enjoy North Queensland's tropical winter weather and take part in one of Australia's most iconic open water swims.

The race begins at Picnic Bay on Magnetic Island and finishes on Townsville's shoreline, directly in front of Strand Park. Guided by a paddler, solo swimmers cover a total distance of 8km. Entries are also available for teams of two or four.

 

The Course

The 8km crossing runs from Picnic Bay, Magnetic Island to the Strand Park shoreline in Townsville. Every solo swimmer is guided by their own paddler for the full distance. Duos and teams of four swim as a relay and require a support boat escort. You'll provide your paddler or skipper details during registration — see the checklist below before you start.
