2026 Auckland Schools Downhill Championships

This annual race is hosted by the Auckland Downhill Club at Dome Valley, Warkworth.

The race line, Ridgeline DH Track, is a Grade 5 downhill trail. It’s fast and technical without being overly extreme, featuring gap jumps (with rollable B-lines), drops, and chutes with some challenging obstacles.

Due to the speed and technical features of the track, riders entering downhill events for the first time are highly recommended to attend the club’s summer shuttle days. The club will also run an official practice day the Sunday before race day — see below for further details.

Shuttle days are listed on the AKDH website and can be booked via the club’s membership portal. A current AKDH annual membership is required to participate.

Event Manual & Technical Regulations

The Event Manual can be downloaded HERE.

We recommend parents and riders also familiarise themselves with the MTBNZ Technical Regulations which provide further clarification and details relating to New Zealand Downhill Racing events.

Protective Equipment

All riders must wear a long-sleeve jersey, full-face helmet, and elbow and knee pads.

Riders aged U17 and under are also required to wear either a neck brace and/or spinal protection. Full-finger gloves are strongly recommended.

If a long-sleeve school MTB shirt is not available, riders may wear a short-sleeve PE shirt over a long-sleeve MTB jersey.

Additional Notes:

  • Riders are not permitted to wear headphones, earphones, or any music or communication devices during practice or competition.
  • Protective equipment will be subject to random inspection throughout the event
