EDUCATION CITY MTB TRAIL QNSD FUN RACE

EVENT INFORMATION

Qatar Foundation Community Outreach and Initiatives Department, in collaboration with the United Filipino Mountain Bikers Qatar and the Qatar Cycling Federation, is organizing the grand opening of the Education City Mountain Bike Trail in celebration of the Qatar National Sports Day on February 13, 2024. The event will feature a Fun MTB Race and a Fun Ride.
 
Join us for a fun morning of cycling, camaraderie, and celebration as we inaugurate this new and exciting 5-kilometer loop mtb trail built by the Qatar Foundation. This event is open to all mountain bikers from various communities.

ELIGIBILITY

  • The race is open to experienced cyclists, as long as he/she is on a Mountain Bike, and he/she belongs to the age groups as mentioned in the category section below.
  • NOTE: You should have your own Mountain Bike to join this race.

 

RIDER’S EQUIPMENT

  • Mountain Bike only (Flat/Riser handlebars only, no Drop Bars, no Aero Bars)
  • There will be no wheel size restriction, wheel sizes 24, 26'er, 650b or 27.5, 27.5+, 29'er, 29+, and Fat wheels are all allowed, as long as the tire width is NOT Narrower than 1.5 inches or 38c and should have threads or knobs. (Skinny, Sand Tires, Slick Tires, Semi-Slick, and Street Tires will NOT be allowed for this race). 
  • HELMET should be worn at all times while competing. Not wearing a helmet while racing will result in Disqualification. 
  • Make sure that your bike is in top condition for the race. 
  • Race numbers MUST be attached to the Handlebar and must be visible at all times when racing.

 

RACE TYPE & RACECOURSE

  • The race will be an XC Fixed Timed Mini Endurance race where participants must do as many laps as possible within the time limit of 45 minutes.
  • The type of start will be Wave Start per category.
  • The race will take place on an approximately 5 km off-road track with an off-road terrain of mixed flats, sandpits, natural & artificial obstacles, climbs, descents, single track, and berms.
  • Sharp Stones, off-camber turns, and construction debris are known hazards on this trail.
  • The race course is newbie-friendly. 
  • Track reading is highly advisable if you are new to this trail or new to mountain biking.

  • MAIN XC RACE - FULL ROUTE: 5 KM (45 Minutes Race)

    • Men Juniors (14-17)
    • Men Under 40 (18-39)
    • Men 40 & Above (40 & Up)
    • Women Juniors (14-17)
    • Women Under 40 (18-39)
    • Women 40 & Above (40 & Up)
  • KIDS RACE - MINI LOOP: 1.5 KM (1 Lap ONLY)

    • Kids 11-13 (no gender segregation)
    • Kids 8-10 (no gender segregation)

 

ROUTE FAMILIARITY & RACE STARTS

  • All competing riders must navigate the official route, covering every inch of the race route with no shortcuts, re-routing, or changes. 
  • The trail is fully marked. Although Track reading is optional, Route familiarization falls under the responsibility of the competing rider.  
  • Any competing Riders incorrectly navigating the route (wrong turns or who become temporarily disoriented) must return to the point they departed the correct path and re-enter the course at that point to avoid disqualification. 
  • Track reading MUST be done in advance. NO Track reading will be allowed while any race is in progress. Track reading, while another race is in progress, can impede the progress of the riders doing the race at that time. You will get a time penalty when someone reports that you track read while the race is in progress.  
  • Race participants should be present at the starting line for the starting and call to order 10 minutes before the scheduled start. (See event timing) 
  • There will be a Short Race Briefing before the start of the race.

 

FEED & TECHNICAL ZONE, SAFETY

  • Field Marshals will be strategically posted on the race-course and available to assist riders while the race is ongoing.
  • Drinking Water (Sponsored by Rayyan Water) will be available after the finish line. 
  • Technical and Mechanical Support (if any) will be located near the start area.

RIDER’S CONDUCT

  • All riders should allow faster riders to pass.
  • Course familiarization is the rider's responsibility. Track reading should be done in advance and not during when a race is going on. As a courtesy to your fellow riders, please AVOID TRACK READING while any race is in progress.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct is subject to disqualification. Be friendly to everyone, and be courteous and respectful to race officials, volunteers, and fellow competitors.
  • Do not litter on or off the course.
  • Any competing riders incorrectly navigating the route (wrong turns or who become disoriented) must return to the point they departed and re-enter the course at that point to avoid disqualification.

 

GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATIONS

  • Unsportsmanlike manners. 
  • Disrespect towards race organizers, officials, volunteers & co-competitors.
  • Littering 
  • Unfair advantages (shortcuts)
  • Not wearing of helmet or removing of helmet while competing. 
  • Wrong positioning of timing chip (no reading) 
  • Unreadable race numbers due to incorrect position (must be attached to the handlebar)
 

APPEALS & PROTESTS

  • When you appeal or file for a protest, sufficient information or proof is needed. 
  • Pre-announcements of Top competitors will be made once the final rider crosses the finish. 
  • Protests and appeals can be accepted while the result is not yet broadcast.  
  • An Appeal fee of 50 QR should be paid if you want to contest the result before it's posted online.  
  • Any appeals made after the Final Results are posted online will be nullified.

 

PRE-REGISTRATION

  • Individual persons who wish to join the race need to Pre-Register online. 
  • We have a limit of 180 Participants - first to register, first-served basis
  • Online Registration is open UNTIL 01:00 PM on Tuesday, February 06.
  • Late / On-Site Registration is subject to availability and will be charged with a Late Entry Fee.

 

ENTRY FEES

  • Free (but only register when you are sure that you will appear and compete on race day)

 

RACE DAY SIGN-ON

  • Sign On Starts at 06:30 AM
  • Show proof of identity before claiming your race kits. You will be required to deposit your QID or Driver's License in exchange for your timing chip.
  • The use of another rider's entry is not allowed.
  • To make everything work smoothly:
    • Know your race number in advance by checking the Start List (available on 11-Feb)
    • You can only sign on for yourself and collect your own race number & timing chip. 
    • Your race number should be visible and positioned on your handlebar. Your timing chip is positioned on the non-disc side of the fork.

 

CHIP TIMING

  • This race will be chipped-timed. We have a limit of 180 Chips for use.
  • The allocation of the Timing Chips will be on a "First in online registration, First served" basis.
  • Due to the limited availability of timing chips, We will also limit the number of registrations, so register only if you are sure that you will be able to attend the race.

 

DISCLAIMER

  • If you join the racing event, you understand the risk of joining off-road cycling activities.
  • You understand that an Ambulance may not be readily available and that the emergency response can take time in any case of an accident.
  • You understand that the organizers, officials, volunteers, and your co-competitor won't be liable for any accident that may occur and may happen to you during this event.
