Venue and course

Hetton Lyons Country Park is a first-class purpose-built traffic-free technical and undulating Road Racing Circuit set in beautiful country park with a freshwater Carp Lake backdrop.

Car Parking

The main car park and cafe will be open to the public. We have been allocated event car parking on the field behind the main car park. Please follow the Event Car Parking signs and park with consideration for others.

Changing and Toilets

Changing rooms, toilets and showers are available in the main building.

Refreshments

The cafe will be open in the main building offering a variety of food and beverages.

Sign-on

Sign-on will be open from 8:30 in the main building in the office to the right as you enter the building. At sign-on you will collect an envelope that will have your details on the outside and your number inside. Your number will have a transponder chip attached to the back. Please do not bend the number where the chip is attached.

As per usual BMCR sign-on rules, no licence or no helmet = no race.

Important note: we need all numbers back so we can retrieve the transponder chip for future events.

Please do not take your number home after the event or dispose of it: hand your number back when you collect your race licence.

Course Practice

Please note, whilst the park and cycle track is traffic free, the park will be open to the general public. You will be able to warm up and ride the circuit prior to any of the scheduled races. However, you must be aware that no marshals will be in place during this time, so you must be vigilant for dog walkers and general public. When the races are in progress, marshals will be in position to warn pedestrians and dog walkers and discourage/prevent them from entering onto the cycle track. To help with this, we will have lead motorbikes in front of the main peleton. Do not pass the lead motorbikes under any circumstances. If you pass the lead motorbikes. you will be disqualified. We have operated this system many times at Hetton with success.

Race Schedule

Due to low number of riders for the A and B categories, the A and B riders will race with the C and D riders.

Category positions will be calculated automatically for each category in each race.

Each race will be 90 minutes long and include a 5-lap count down.

Note: There are no "laps out" for mechanical problems. If you get lapped by the leaders, please do not get involved again with the leaders or the bunch. If you wish, you may continue to finish your race and still obtain a position. However, if you are still on the course at the start time of the next race, you will be pulled off the course, but still receive your position.

Rider Behaviour

Reifen Racing kindly ask riders to be respectful to one another, other park users and local residents.

Riders must NOT litter the circuit. Please keep any wrappers or bottles stowed for disposal after the race.

Riders should be mindful of their behaviour particularly within the residential areas of the circuit; you are representing your club and cycling community.

Rider Safety

    • Look after each other and use common sense.
    • Call any potholes or oncoming obstacles.
    • If you withdraw from the race, please let a marshal know, either on the course or at the start line.

Rider feeding

On a race of this distance riders should be self-sufficient. However, if any rider plans to be provided with road-side support (food and plastic bottles only) then this must be provided from the right-had side of the circuit on the finishing straight only. Anyone judged to be in breach could be disqualified by the Judge. Select your location sensibly and please use common sense. No feeding is allowed during the last 5 laps.

Rules and Regulations

This event will be held in accordance with the current Technical Regulations set out by the BMCR.

Acknowledgements

We could not host and execute race without a great team behind us to support and carry out all of the necessary duties on the day. Iain Turnbull and myself would like to thank all of the Reifen Team members who are giving up their time to support us and the additional people outside the Team (wives, family members and friends of Reifen Racing). A massive thanks to John, Judith and Peter Reed for supporting us with help on the day and providing us with the necessary barriers to help ensure you all have a safe race.

A big thank you to Sunderland Council and Springboard for the venue and prep work to ensure the Track is in tip top condition.

We sincerely hope you all have a great day of racing at this fabulous Road Racing Circuit and we have big plans for 2024 for more BMCR races at Hetton. Please feel free to leave and feedback good or bad.
