The online entry amends / transfer portal will close on Thursday 7th September 2023 at 8PM. No changes allowed after that point.

Firstly, it is 85% off road which is still unusual these days. Secondly, we are dispensing with a mass start in favour of a completely new concept for a 10Krunning race... The Llantwit Major 10K will be a time trial!

Entrants will start at 15 second intervals in waves of 3 runners.

5   4   3   2   1   GO!

To achieve this we will be strictly limited to 240 entries. But whether you are first away at 10:00:00 or last away your actual start time will not matter because it is chip to chip. What does matter is that to have a chance of getting the fastest time and thus winning the race, contenders will be forced to go as fast as they are able from the start, no settling into a comfortable lead and sitting on it. Throughout the 10 kilometres there will be no indication of where you stand in the field.

As competitors finish, their times will be available to view at the link above (Results Tab) The final winner will not be known until every single entrant is home.

The race starts in Llantwit Major and quickly takes to public footpaths.

Entrants will be seeded, fastest expected times starting first.

IMPORTANT: RACE BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS

LM10k 2022 Runners Brief v1

As the race is a time trial, this runners brief must be made available before the event, clearly available in the registration area and read out to entrants every 15 minutes starting at 09:50.

  • Welcome to the 7th Llantwit Major 10k race.
  • The race is a time trial, and runners will start in groups of three at 15 second intervals, with those with fastest estimated times starting first.
  • The race is approximately 80% off road and takes in as many of the historic sights of Llantwit Major as we can squeeze in, plus the beach and the heart break hill, an old favourite from previous years.
  • I draw your attention to the fact this a trail race.
  • There will be roots and rocks on the path. The larger ones we have painted a bright colour.
  • The route is marked with signs and arrows painted on the ground.
  • If the signs don’t match the arrows painted on the floor, follow the arrows on the floor.
  • Where we think you should take particular care we have put extra signage. There are 5 stiles which will need care, plus a number of kissing gates.
  • First Aid cover is provided by Acute Medics who we hope will not be called on.
  • If you feel ill or find someone else who is ill, contact the nearest Marshall.
  • All Marshalls will be wearing yellow jackets.  If your race is ruined through helping others we will ensure you get suitable recompense.
  • There are road sections which typically have little traffic on Sunday morning.
  • Please take extra care on these sections and listen to the Marshalls.
  • Because we need you to listen to the Marshalls and for possible traffic, headphones and ear buds are not allowed as per UK Athletics rules.
  • Water point is at the 5k mark. It will be dispensed in disposal cups, which should wherever possible discarded in the bins supplied. Bottles of water and bananas will be available at the finish.
  • Any questions please ask and we will try to answer your queries. The Race Directors Telephone Number is 07827 779566.

PARKING

There should be plenty of parking available on Sunday. There is free parking for up to 2hrs in the shopping carpark opposite CF61. You can also park for free ( unlimited) in the train station carpark which is a minute walk away from CF61. You can also arrive by train from Bridgend or Cardiff and there will be space to lock up your bicycle if you are pedalling there on the day.

TOUR OF BRITAIN CYCLE RACE
There are road closures on Sunday for the Tour of Britain. They won’t affect you getting to the event but may affect your journey home. Have a look at link below to see if you need to change your route or stay and explore Llantwit for a little longer after your run
