Thank you for your support for the Colony High School XC Ski Team and the Mat-Su Ski Club!

Trail Update: 5/25/23, the up trail is about 98% snow free, the down trail still has snow patches on the upper part (above blueberry knoll), but then is snow free.  The course is shaping up to be great!

The start/finish may have to be moved about 100ft due to a construction project slated to start the monday after the race, and they may have equipment on site.  We are working with the contractor and they are being VERY HELPFUL.

Race date: June 3rd, 2023
Race time is 10:30AM FOR THE UP & DOWN RACE & the UPHILL ONLY RACE  (yes both races will start together)

Wave Starts: Wave 1: 10:30am (projected to the top time 65 minutes or Faster)

                      Wave 2: 10:33am (projected to the top time 66 minutes- 80 minutes)

                       Wave 3: 10:36am (projected to the top time 81 minutes +)

Race start will be at the Government Peak Rec Community Center (GPRA Chalet)

Entry Fee: $40 April 15th- May 15th,

$50 May 16th- June 2nd,

Race Day $60 

Family entry: $100 for a family (immediate family only, Must sign up before May 31st) Must email Mark Strabel before signing up with family members and you will be given a signup code to register with.

AWARDS:

Everyone is eligilable for the uphill only places; top 3 MALE AND FEMALE will be awarded; AND TOP  3 MALE AND FEMALE JUNIORS (UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE)

Round trip (King and Queen of the mountain): ONLY ROUND TRIP RACERS ELIGIBLE 

FASTEST DOWNHILL: ONLY ROUNDTRIP RACERS (TOP MALE AND TOP FEMALE)

MIDDLE OF THE PACK: The person that finishes in the middle of the overall at the top, and the person that finishes in the middle of the roundtrip will be awarded

Age group awards: for both the uphill and the roundtrip

 

 

Training on the mountain: Of course, although the gate at the bottom of the hill closes at 10pm, and the Mat-Su Boro will close the trail during breakup season (please save the trail from distruction)

Course Description:

Uphill Course:  Follow the "gov Peak Race trail" signs up the south side of the mountain, finishes at the top at the "repeater station" building

Uphill and Downhill Course: Travels up the south side of the mountain (just like the uphill only course),  Then proceeds down the East Ridge trail towards Blueberry Knoll trail and comes down the Blueberry Knoll Trail back to the start.
 

Please be aware that there is some trail construction going on and detour signs will be posted.

Directions to the race start:
From Anchorage:
North on the Glenn Hwy (continue onto the Parks Hwy)
Exit at Trunk Rd
North on Trunk Rd (go through a round-about, stoplight, round-about)
Turn left on Palmer Fish-hook Rd
North on Palmer Fish-hook Rd for 4.5miles
Turn left on Edgerton Parks Rd (mile 7.1 Palmer Fish-hook rd)
Travel 1 mile
Turn north on Mountain trails road, drive 1 mile

Parking: Parking at the Government Peak Chalet. This is a Mat-Su Boro Parking area and there is a $5 fee, State Park Passes DO NOT WORK here.

Gate hours: Please be aware that there is a gate to the access road, and it will be open from 8am-10pm.
