The Amman Marathon is the largest of Run Jordan's large-scale running events attracting participants from all parts of the country and around the world.
The routes of the annual marathon and half-marathon races are situated in the heart of downtown area and provide runners a close-up view of some of Amman's important landmarks and antiquities.
The starting lines for the marathon and half-marathon races begin near the headquarters of the Greater Amman Municipality and end close to the Roman Amphitheatre built during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius when the city was known as 'Philadelphia.
The event also hosts two other races - a 10 km race involving thousands of Jordanians and overseas athletes and shorter 4 km fun run for children. Participants in the 10 km race meet the marathon runners at the same finish line and attend the same award ceremony organized in the Roman Amphitheatre.
