Brand new trail half marathon in Cannock Chase Forest

Designated an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Prime forest trails, wild fallow deer, endangered birds and even glacial boulders, this place has it all.

When is it?

Race day is Saturday 7th May 2016 - 11.00am start.

Where is it?
Starts at Milford Common, Cannock Chase Forest, Brocton Road, Stafford, ST17 0UH.

Can I park?
Yes, but as it's free we are expecting it to get quite busy, so please try and car share if you can.
An alternative pay and display car park is here too if the free parking fills up, so a bit of change wouldn't be a bad idea.

Any changing facilities?
Remember getting changed under a towel on the beach?.....or just arrive in your gear.

What about toilets?
These are on site just over the road from the car park.

Is it a timed event?
Yes, we are using chip timing but the emphasis is on enjoying yourself. Go as fast or as slow as you want. As it's chip timed we have the luxury of starting the race in two waves if needs be to avoid any bottle necking near the narrow uphill start.

Tell me about the route
The route follows paths and trails through Cannock Chase Forest. It's a trail race, so expect some good ups and downs, uneven ground, mud (if it's been raining) grass and shale. With an uphill start it's a one lap race starting and finishing from the Milford Common area, this allows easier access for parking and minimises disruption to the forest and wildlife. This is also one of the few points you can access Cannock Chase and comfortably fit in a half marathon route without having to cross any roads. Please stick to the main signposted route which follows clear, well trodden paths and trails. It will be as close to the normal 13.1 miles as we can get it. Marshals will be at various points and another will follow the last runner to ensure everyone gets round safely. All entrants are expected to be reasonably fit and able to run / jog most of the route without difficulty. There will be 3 water stops along the route at approx 3, 7 and 11 miles. Full details will be in the race email runners get closer to race day.

What about spectators?
There's nothing like having your loved ones there to share in the glory of your hard earned efforts.
Friends and family are most welcome to come along and there is no spectator or parking fee. Having the start and finish at Milford Common allows them to cheer you off and back in again without having to move. There will be coffee and refreshments on sale here, toilets and there's also a Wimpy takeout (remember them?!) and a family friendly pub too (The Barley Mow). Of course those feeling more adventurous are welcome to find alternative viewing points along the route and we'll suggest some in the email too.

Where do I get my race number from?
You collect this from the start area on race morning, so arrive in plenty of time to get yours (just look for the sign). We will have safety pins available but won't complain if you bring your own!

Can I enter on the day?
Entries are £22 and in advance only please (min age 16yrs). This ensures we have a smooth and timely start on race day. Also we are limited to the number of runners due to going through sensitive areas of the forest and sites of special scientific interest.

Will there be first aid available?
Yes, but you should be relatively fit and have no known medical conditions which would hinder your run or cause the race organiser concern. You are reminded not to run if you feel ill or have a cold or flu on race day as this can be extremely dangerous. Do not take part if you have any respiratory illness or recent medical condition.
