Insomniac 100

Townsville Triathlon Club welcomes you to the inaugural Riverway Insomniac 100 Ultra and the Riverway Insomnia 42 Marathon . The format of this race is different.

Competitors in the Riverway Insomnia 100 Ultra will start at 9:00 am Saturday morning and have an hour to complete one lap (4.2km) of the course. The next lap starts at 10:00 am, and the third lap starts at 11:00 am, etc. After 24 hours, competitors will commence their last lap at 08:00 am Sunday and by 09:00 am Sunday will have completed the 100km Ultra.

Competitors in the Riverway Insomnia 42 Marathon commence at 11:00 pm Saturday night. They will also commence their last lap at 08:00 am Sunday and by 09:00 am Sunday will have completed the 42km Marathon.

Details:

Each lap starts on the hour, every hour, for 24 hours. Laps will alternate between clockwise and anti-clockwise. You have 60 seconds from the Lap Start to commence your lap and need to cross the finish line before the hour is up.  If you fail to complete a lap within the hour OR you fail to start the next lap on the hour, you will then be updated as a DNF (Did Not Finish) and your results will show your completed laps.

Both distances can be completed as a SOLO competitor or as a TEAM competitor. TEAMs will consist of at least two runners and no more than four runners. At the start of each lap, one of the TEAM members must commence the next lap - it does not matter how many laps each team member completes, or in what sequence - as long as a TEAM member completes the next prescribed lap you can remain in the competition! The event will have a semi-secure Rest & Recovery area at the start line - this will be principally for competitors but you will be able to bring support people with you. You will be able to access the Riverway Amentities as usual. You should plan on being relatively self-sufficient for the duration of your event (nutrition, hydration, any special creams/ointments etc).

Event winners and podium finishers will be the competitors with the lowest aggregated time over the Ultra and the Marathon.

Charity:

This years inaugral event will raise money for charity - being ‘Prevail - Explosive Clearance, Trauma Care, & Humanitarian Aid’ -  a humanitarian organisation helping Ukraine. Recently a Townsville local and a relative of one of our club committee members died attempting to disarm ordnance in Ukraine.
