Road Relay County Championship Guidelines

General

These guidelines are specifically for road race county championship team relays. The event hosting the relays may have different rules for the event itself.

Race Eligibility

  1. The race must have a UKA permit to be used as county championship event.
  2. The race can be used as a senior championship, a veterans’ championship or both.
  3. The race must be run under UKA rules.

Race Entry

  1. The race organisers should ensure that the race literature and entry forms – whether postal or on-line – state that the race is being used as a Herts County Championship and allow entrants to indicate that they are entering for the county championship
  2. Teams must be entered in advance by a club which is affiliated to the Hertfordshire County Amateur Athletic Association.
  3. Entries for the county championship should be closed before the day of the race even if the race allows entries on the day and a list of the county championship entrants should be displayed at the event.

Athlete Eligibility

An athlete is eligible to enter a Herts County Relay Championship if they:

  1. Are born in Hertfordshire or have been residing in Hertfordshire for at least 9 months and
  2. Have not entered a County Championships of another county in the calendar year and
  3. Are currently registered with England Athletics[1]

If the race is being used as a senior championship then athletes of all ages, including veterans, are eligible.

If the race is being used solely as a veterans’ championship then male athletes must be 40 or over and female athletes 35 or over on the day of the race.

Team Eligibility

  1. Relay championships will incorporate team prizes for women’s, men’s and mixed teams. A veterans’ championship will have a single team prize, not a team prize for each age group.
  2. All teams will consist of the same number of athletes to be decided by the race organisers. If the number of athletes is an even number then a mixed team must have the same number of women and men. If the number of athletes is an odd number then a mixed team can have either one more woman or one more man.
  3. The entry must specify which championship (senior or veterans’) the team is entered for and whether the team is a women’s team, a men’s team or a mixed team.
  4. Athletes in a team must be members of the club which enters the team. If an athlete is a member of more than one club which is entering a team then they can only compete for their first claim club.
  5. Athletes in a team entered for a veteran’s championship must be over 40 if male and over 35 if female on the day of the race.
  6. If a club has sufficient eligible athletes then it can have more than one team in any championship. Teams must be named and must specify the order in which the athletes will run. An athlete can only be entered for one team.

Team Scoring and Medals

  1. Medals will be awarded to the first 3 teams in each championship based upon the order in which the final athlete in the team finishes the race.
  2. All athletes in a team must finish in the order in which they were declared on the team entry. An athlete can only run in one team.
  3. No county championship medals will be awarded to individual athletes.

Results

  1. The times and finishing positions for the teams eligible for the county championship should be compiled by the organisers and given to the HCAAA representative as soon as possible after the race.
  2. The HCAAA representative will be responsible for awarding the medals and ensuring that the results are published on the HCAAA website. The host race organisers should endeavour to publish the county championship results on the race website.
  3. The organisers should also publish the times for each athlete of the county championship teams if possible.
