KENT RIDGE CARNIVAL - 14 April 2018
XCO EVENT

Welcome

Welcome to the Kent Ridge Carnival. The idea for this event was to provide a smaller “test run” event for the upcoming Downhill Nationals on the 21st July. Since we are at the location, we thought it a good idea to also have a small XCO race for the more elite riders.

Special Thanks

On behalf of Cycosports and the Singapore Cycling Federation we would like to say a special thanks to Ivan & James and the many volunteers that keep making the Kent Ridge MTB Park better and better. Only through their tireless efforts could such an event happen.

Race Location

Please park at the upper carpark where the toilets are located. Please do not park illegally at the event area as this area is extremely busy with cyclists and races in progress.

When no parking lot is available at the Kent Ridge Park Main Carpark, please find alternative parking down the road. No parking along Vigilante Drive is allowed as it is a single carriageway road.

National Parks have expressly asked us to highlight to participants there are no wash facilities for bicycles and please do not use the toilets to wash your bikes.

XCO Race

The XCO Race will start at 8:00am and be broken into 3 waves of Open, Masters and Supermasters, released 1 minutes apart. Open will complete 5 laps with Masters and Supermasters doing 4 laps.

Downhill Race

The downhill race will consist of three parts:

  1. Training – Riders will be able to undertake training runs (excluding the footpath area) from 7:45am to 9:15am. A Marshal will release each rider onto the course at 30 second intervals. Riders must have their number on their bike before starting a training run.

    Note: Marshals will guide riders to the start as the pavement is “live” with the XCO race.
  • It is mandatory that all riders do at least 1 training ride or “roll down” the track before being allowed to race / Number of runs will be marked by marshals. Recommended to do 2 training runs if time permits.
  1. Seeding Run – From 9:30am all riders will race the course based on a defined start schedule at intervals of 1 minute. Riders are advised to be at the staging area 10 minutes before their scheduled start time with complete gears.

  2. Final Run – From 11am all riders will race the course by category and then their seeded time with the fastest riders last.

Uplift – Moving back to Start Line

During Training Runs - The marshal will guide the riders to Vigilante Drive (ensuring it is clear of competing XCO riders). Please always give way to the XCO riders competing. Once at Vigilante Drive, please use the footpath as the XCO riders will be using the grass.

During Seeding and Final Runs - Riders are to use the pavement (Vigilante Drive) to move up to the Start while the DH seeding and Finals are in-progress.

DH Rider Starts

Please note the following UCI Rules:

  • A commissaire will stage the riders according to the start list and when called the riders must line up behind the start line.
  • Under no circumstance may a rider start the race at any time other than his start time.
  • The rider may start between 5 seconds before and 5 seconds after his official starting time as electronic timing is used.
  • A rider who misses his starting time will be considered as a «did not start (DNS)» and will not be given another starting time.
  • Any rider who goes off course must re-enter the course at the same exit point or will be disqualified.

In the event a rider’s seeding or final run is “cancelled” due to a red flag incident on the course, the rider must report to the finish judge who will confirm the rerun. The rider must then (as quickly as possible) report to the Start Judge for the rerun.

Downhill Helmet and Rider Protection

  • A full-face helmet must be worn properly both when racing and when training on the course. The helmet must be fitted with a peak. Open-face helmets may not be worn.
  • The UCI strongly recommends that riders wear the following protection:
    • back, elbow, knee and shoulder protectors made of rigid materials;
    • protection for the nape of the neck and the cervical vertebrae;
    • padding on shins and thighs;
    • broad full-length trousers made from rip-resistant material incorporating protection for the knees and calves, or broad-cut shorts made from rip-resistant material plus knee and calf protectors with a rigid surface;
    • long sleeved shirt;
    • full finger gloves.

Course Marshals

Each marshal will be located in direct line of sight of the next. They signal the arrival of riders with a short, loud blast on a whistle. Each marshal will have a radio link and red flag.

Red flag holders will immediately assess the situation of any crashed rider and continue reporting by radio to the marshal coordinator. Red flag marshals who are not directly affected by an accident must follow the relevant radio transmissions. If they note that one of their colleagues further down the course is waving their red flag, they will immediately do the same.

Riders observing a waving red flag during the race must stop immediately. A stopped rider must continue calmly to the finish and request a re-start from the finish line commissaire and wait for further instruction.

Masrhals Needed Please

We are still short on marshals for the day. Marshals are essential for keeping the event safe. Each Marshal will be paid $50 and will be stationed at an area of the downhill track. The marshal will be provided with a marshal bib, red flag,whistle and walkie-talkie. Official duty will be from 7:30am to 12 noon with the briefing at 7:10am onsite.
