21/07/2018 | Port St Mary > Port Erin, Isle of Man Manx Harriers Pier to Pier Trail Run

Race & Route Description

The Pier to Pier Trail Run starts at the entrance of the Alfred Pier in Port St Mary at 09.00 and follows part of the Raad Ny Foillan coastal footpath to the Raglan Pier in Port Erin. The route is just over 10k (6.2 miles) and consists of tarmac road sections at the begining and end with the middle part being a well worn public right of way along the Southern tip of the Isle of Man coastline. The terrain is mixed footpath with sections traversing open fields and grazing farmland. There are sections that are stoney, rocky, and in some cases will require a reasonable amount of skill and fitness to clamber over the tighter sections of the route. You will be rewarded with dramatic views along the Manx coastline and spectacular scenery reaching out towards the Calf Sound, the Calf of Man, Port Erin and Bradda Head. Weather Permitting!!!

Race Kit, Rules and General Requirements

This is not a fell race, you do not have to abide by The Fell Running Association rule book regarding essential kit. However, trail running is not like road running and requires suitable clothing and footwear to match the conditions on the day. It is advised that you should use trail running shoes as a minimum requirement that provide suitable grip and durability for the terrain covered. You may use road running shoes at your own risk! You should carry an extra layer of clothing or a survival blanket, a whistle, a small amount of water and food with you just incase. You may wish to bring your mobile phone with you as an additional safety measure but please remember that the phone reception signal may be restricted on certain parts of the course. The course will be marked by the Race Director at any point where the route is not already obvious, it is up to you to be familiar with the route in advance of the race. No navigational skills are required for this type of event. There are plenty of blue coloured Raad Ny Foillan footpath signs to keep you on track, if in doubt keep the sea to your left and the sheep to your right! Water will be provided at the end of the course in Port Erin. The minimum age to enter this race is eighteen on the day of the race.
